Atividade antibacteriana dos óleos essenciais de Origanum vulgare (orégano) e de Thymus vulgaris (tomilho) contra bactérias patógenas isoladas de alimentos de origem animal: uma revisão sistemática

As doenças de transmissão hídrica e alimentar, principalmente as ocasionadas por bactérias, continuam sendo um sério problema de saúde pública e os compostos naturais estão cada vez mais associados a estudos nesta temática devido ao seu potencial antibacteriano. A presente pesquisa objetivou analisar o conhecimento científico sobre o potencial antibacteriano dos óleos essenciais de Origanum vulgare e de Thymus vulgaris contra bactérias patógenas isoladas de alimentos de origem animal. Realizou-se uma revisão sistemática da literatura mediante busca nos periódicos eletrônicos da CAPES e nas bases de dados: Medline e LILACS, utilizando os descritores “antimicrobial x Origanum vulgare x food”; “antimicrobial x Thymus vulgaris x food”; “antibacteriano x Origanum vulgare x alimento”; “antibacteriano x Thymus vulgaris x alimento”, no período de 2018 a 2023. Como resultado, foram selecionados 18 estudos, observando-se uma maior porcentagem de artigos sobre a atividade antimicrobiana do óleo essencial de tomilho. Em relação as espécies bacterianas, foram contabilizadas 12 gêneros e 14 espécies. Os gêneros Salmonella, Staphylococcus e Escherichia foram os mais utilizados nas pesquisas. Conclui-se que, os diferentes trabalhos citados na presente pesquisa, evidenciam a potencial aplicação dos óleos essenciais de tomilho e de orégano como método antibacteriano e antibiofilme.
